Nicole Ruiz Hudson is a food and drink writer and educator living in Oakland, California. A culinary school graduate and lover of all things wine, she has a particular passion for wine pairing. She holds a WSET Diploma and is a certified sommelier. She spent three years in the tasting department at Wine Spectator and regularly contributes to the “8 & 20” recipe and pairing series on WineSpectator.com. Most recently Nicole was one of four organizers of Bâtonnage, a day long forum to stir up the conversation on women in wine that took place in Napa Valley. You can also find her at her blogs SommsTable.com and NibblingGypsy.com.
Nikki got her start in the wine industry in 2006 while studying Textiles and Apparel at Cornell University. Disenchanted with the world of fashion, she fell in love with the cold-climate wines of the Finger Lakes—but quickly realized she preferred warm-climate living, and moved to California in 2008. Since then, she has attained WSET Diploma certification and worked as a host in tasting rooms, a buyer in retail shops, an owner of a San Francisco wine bar, a wine writer and educator, and currently the Fine Wine Content Manager at Vinfolio in San Francisco as well as a freelance wine writer. Nikki is especially passionate about wines that are a little bit unusual, and regularly seeks out unfamiliar regions and varieties to explore.
